Nonsmoking Campaign

Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has conducted various anti-smoking activities to mark the World No-Tobacco Day, May 31. The DPRK government has worked out a national tobacco control strategy in line with the framework convention on tobacco control of the World Health Organization. A tobacco control law was adopted in the country in July Juche 94 (2005) and revised and supplemented favorably for tobacco control in December 2009. The government has conducted information activities to develop the nonsmoking campaign into a nationwide movement. Meanwhile, a nonsmoking center was established and scientific research, goods production and consultations are going well to encourage people to quit smoking. Hong Sun Gwang, vice president of the State Sanitary Inspection Board, told KCNA the anti-smoking activities would be intensified in the country in conformity with the tobacco control law and in cooperation with international organizations. |
