Lake Jingbo Battle

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il, during his recent visit to China, did the sights of Lake Jingbo, a scenic spot in northeast China. The lake is also well known for a battle fought by a unit of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army under the command of President Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese armed struggle. One day in November Juche 23 (1934), the unit for the first expedition to north Manchuria was conducting political activities in a village near the lake. At that time, over 200 Japanese troops were surging to the village to attack the unit. After being briefed on the situation by scouts, the President told commanding officers of the expedition unit and a north Manchuria-based unit that the Japanese troops would come across the frozen lake and ordered them to attack the enemies from ambush. As he anticipated, some time later they were crossing the lake in column. When they came within the range, the President gave the order to fire. The guerrillas fired a volley at the enemies to annihilate all of the enemies. The Lake Jingbo Battle served as a model of ambush for the north Manchuria-based guerrilla units. |
