The Tokyo Electric Power Co. announced that the level of water contaminated by radiation in the building and shaft of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant was rising due to the rain.

It was reported that the water which leaked from the reactor into which it had been pumped to cool it and the water was mixed with rainwater, raising the level of the underground water inside nuclear reactor No. 1 about 20 cm in 24 hours by 7:00 a.m. of May 30.

At a time when the amount of the contaminated water around other buildings that house reactors has increased as compared with that before, TEPCO made it clear that the total amount of water inside the buildings that house reactors Nos. 1 and 3 and in their basements, etc. reached 105,100 tons.

As torrential rain is expected in the future, TEPCO expressed concern that radioactive substance mixed with rainwater may flow outside to seriously contaminate seawater and soil.

The amount of radioactive substance measured inside the building that houses reactor No. 1 reached 4,000mSv/h at present, a proof that high concentration of radioactive materials are still leaking from the power plant.

According to the results of the calculation published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, they confirmed the fact that the amount of radioactive substance contained in the air right after the accident at the power plant reached 770,000 TBq or double that calculated earlier.
