They held a candlelight rally at Chonggye Square in Seoul.

At the rally speakers denounced the authorities for suppressing the students demanding they implement the commitments to halve the registration fee.

What the students want is to settle the registration fee issue at an early date, they declared, urging the "Grand National Party" to clarify its stand on the issue.

The candlelight which had been held high against the import of American beef will rage higher to develop into a candlelight rally for the settlement of the registration fee issue and thus precipitate the ruin of Lee Myung Bak, they warned.

At the end of the rally the students staged a demonstration.

In another development, the general student councils of Korea University, Sogang University, Sookmyung Women's University and other universities held a press conference before Ehwa Woman's University at which they declared their students would stay away from classes on June 10 in demand of the settlement of the registration fee issue.

The Confederation of Trade Unions, the Citizens' Solidarity for Democratic Society and other civic and public organizations held an emergency meeting for measures together with students at which they declared that they would launch a joint struggle for the settlement of the registration fee issue.
