Kyodo News Service on June 11 said that Japan's whaling fleet left the ports of Yamaguchi and Hiroshima Prefectures for northwest Pacific Ocean to conduct scientific research.

The fleet plans to capture 260 whales till early next year but this is a wanton violation of the international norm which limits the haul of only several whales for scientific research.
