Anniversary of Start of Work at WPK Celebrated Abroad
Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) -- The 47th anniversary of general secretary Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the 11th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration were celebrated in different countries from June 1 to 12.

A meeting and lecture took place in Sweden, opening ceremonies of the DPRK's book, photo and handicraft exhibitions in Russia, Brazil and Peru and a ceremony for opening the week of photo exhibition in Nigeria.

Christer Lundgren, chairman of the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association, in his lecture said under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il the WPK has displayed its might as a guiding force leading the Korean people in their efforts to realize their desire and demand.

The adoption of the historic inter-Korean declaration in Pyongyang on June 15, 2000 was an event of epochal significance in the movement for Korea's reunification and the declaration instilled the bright hope of reunification into the Koreans, he noted.

Eric Andersson, international secretary of the Communist Party of Sweden, praised Kim Jong Il's exploits in party building, saying the WPK is an invincible party transparent in its idea which has achieved single-minded unity with popular masses and deeply rooted among them.

The director of the Bureau of Culture of the Ussuriysk City Administration, Maritime Territory of Russia, said the exhibition would help the people of the city more clearly understand about the DPRK under the leadership of the great leader.

The deputy director of the Art and Cultural Council of the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory said Kim Jong Il has developed the WPK into a party absolutely supported by the people.

A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting in Sweden.
