As part of such moves the U.S. Defense Department plans to deploy 12 MV-22 Ospreys, new VTOLs, at the U.S. military base in Fudenma, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan in the fiscal year of 2013.

Reporting about this, the Japanese Asahi Shimbun on June 18 said that local inhabitants are expressing apprehension over the security of this plane as there were frequent accidents at the stage of its development.
