US Forces' Plan to Deploy New Arms Equipment Opposed

| Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The Ginowan City Assembly in Okinawa Prefecture adopted a resolution Wednesday urging cancellation of the U.S. plan to deploy MV-22 Osprey vertical takeoff and landing aircraft at the U.S. base in the city. The resolution expressed concerns about the aircraft's safety as the aircraft "have been involved in a number of fatal crashes" during test flights. The strengthening of the functions of the Futenma facility by the Osprey deployment would lead to the "fixation" of the Futenma base in its present form, it said. The resolution urged both the Japanese and the U.S. governments to shut down the base as soon as possible. |
