Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) -- Taekwon-Do, orthodox martial art of the Korean nation now widely disseminated worldwide, created a great sensation in the United States again. The DPRK's Taekwon-Do Demonstration Group had performed in the U.S., drawing capacity spectators since June 9, touring three cities in the east part of the U.S. including New York for a week. This was the second visit by the group since 2007. The recent visit drew world attention as it took place at a time when the DPRK is boosting international exchange and cooperation while accelerating the building of a thriving socialist nation under the banner of independence, peace and friendship. Media of the U.S. and many other countries including China paid attention to its visit to the U.S. even before its start from Pyongyang. They gave wide coverage to the whole course of its visit from its arrival in the U.S., its performances and return home. Great were the expectations of Americans for the visit of the DPRK's sports mission to the U.S. as it would bring close feelings of the two peoples while demonstrating the spirit of the Taekwon-Do, the pride of the Korean nation and a world famous martial art. The venues of performances were crowded with Taekwon-Do fans, citizens and Koreans from different parts of the country. The DPRK's national flag was seen hoisted there and streamers reading "Goodwill visit of the DPRK's Taekwon-Do Demonstration Group-2011" and "DPRK-U.S. Reconciliation, Friendship, Peace" were displayed. The DPRK Taekwon-Do players fully demonstrated the wisdom and high spirit of the Korean nation and power of the orthodox martial art from its premiere in Boston City, Massachusetts State. It gave just three performances, evoking a lively response in the U.S. Their presentations were made amidst the playing of the DPRK's national anthem while its national flag was hoisted. They successfully performed different numbers including Taekwon-Do exercise for health with high martial art skills, winning high acclaims from spectators. Whenever they presented such refined technical movements showcasing breath-taking yet strong power as destroying bricks and others, kicking targets by turning back and the art of self-defense, all spectators stood up and sent enthusiastic applauses to them. Even after performances were over, many spectators kept clapping their hands. Some of them called on the players, congratulating them on their successes. They also took pictures together. Many spectators vied with each other to get signatures from players, reluctant to part from them. Spectators were unanimous in describing "Taekwon-Do of the DPRK as the best and mysterious martial art." The demonstration performances provided us with an opportunity to know about the strong mental power of the DPRK admired by the world, they added. Koreans in the U.S. had this to say: We were encouraged to watch the powerful Taekwon-Do replete with national spirit and soul. We feel proud of being Koreans whose ancestors founded Taekwon-Do. The DPRK Taekwon-Do players not only displayed indomitable spirit and grit and high technique they have trained in day-to-day trainings but also showcased noble spiritual and moral traits, moving spectators. When interviewed by media persons who congratulated the players on their successes, they told they performed with the pluck and grit instilled into them by leader Kim Jong Il. Americans were greatly impressed to hear that. Many of those who met DPRK players looked surprised to hear about the Korean people's absolute trust in their leader and ardent reverence for him at first but they expressed sympathy and understanding of the source of the mental power of the DPRK later. During its stay in the U.S. the demonstration group taught Taekwon-Do to students in different cities, deeply impressing Americans. An American journalist who accompanied the group said: Taekwon-Do is becoming more popular than Karate, Kung fu and other martial arts as it helps train both physical bodies and minds. Many parents in the U.S. teach Taekwon-Do to their children because it puts more emphasis on the spirit and personal character than any other martial arts. They expect to see their children cultivate through Taekwon-Do patience and concentration, good-mannered behavior, respect for elders, responsibility for themselves and ability to keep away from liquor and smoking. The U.S. and world media gave wide publicity to the performances by the DPRK's Taekwon-Do demonstration group every day. Not only the CNN and other broadcasting services and newspapers of the U.S., the newspapers of Koreans in the U.S., Internet media, the Chinese Central TV, Nihon TV of Japan but south Korean media including KBS and MBC highlighted the group's performance and sojourn. VOA gave special reports about the DPRK's Taekwon-Do demonstration group almost every day. The U.S. media said Americans who were looking at the DPRK Taekwon-doists with curiosity got mingled with them, following their movements. American politicians sent congratulatory letters on the successes gained by the DPRK's Taekwon-Do demonstration group and its significance. The chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee said this year's cultural exchange would be helpful to promoting reconciliation, friendship and peace between the DPRK and the U.S. A congressman from New Jersey State said the DPRK's Taekwon-Do demonstration group's performances would help the Americans and the Koreans establish relations based on mutual understanding, adding he welcomes such an exchange. A mayor of a city, New Jersey State in a letter congratulating the DPRK Taekwon-doists on their successful visit to the U.S. noted with appreciation that the Taekwon-Do technique of the DPRK is quite different from what he has seen in the U.S. The amazing oneness in the movement of the DPRK Taekwon-Do players is a technique distinguished in martial art, he added, emphasizing the demonstration group helped the two peoples get closer with each other. The president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of Representatives of New Jersey State in a letter signed by them said the DPRK Taekwon-doists are respected and admired by Americans for their gifted skills, high level of techniques and positive efforts. They congratulated the players on their successful performances. American citizens earnestly requested the DPRK's Taekwon-Do demonstration group to visit other local areas of the U.S., asking the players to come to the U.S. again. The DPRK Taekwon-doists replied they would come again if they are given more opportunity to demonstrate the DPRK's Taekwon-Do in the U.S. The DPRK Taekwon-doists' performances in the U.S. excited Americans and left deep impression on them. |
