Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- A nationwide effort has been launched in the DPRK to recover from damage caused by a recent typhoon. Most areas of the DPRK were affected by typhoon-5 for three days from June 25. The typhoon brought a strong wind, heavy rain and tidal wave to the DPRK, claiming casualties and leaving more than 160 dwelling blocks destroyed and over 21,000 hectares of cultivated areas submerged, washed away and buried mainly in west coastal areas. Public buildings, production facilities, roads and river banks were wrecked or inundated. Kangwon, North and South Hwanghae Provinces and other affected areas are now working on securing materials needed for the reconstruction work. They are rebuilding damaged dwelling houses, public buildings, roads and bridges to stabilize inhabitants' living. They are also draining flooded cropland, clearing out ditches and embanking rivers. |
