At the press conference speakers condemned the authorities for pushing forward the construction of the naval base on Jeju Island despite the people's protest.

Personages of different social standings and members of international peace organizations have waged solidarity actions against the construction of the base, they said, adding they would intensify the actions against the "government" and the "National Assembly."

In an appeal the organization underlined the need to stop the construction of the naval base that threatens peace in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia and deteriorates the living of the Jeju islanders.
