Attempted Arrest of Reunification Champions Protested in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea, including the Inchon Headquarters of the Confederation of Trade Unions and the People's Solidarity for the Repeal of the "National Security Law", called a press conference outside the Seoul District Court on July 19 in protest against the Intelligence Service' s attempted arrest of reunification champions.

Speakers at the conference said that the IS additionally applied a warrant of arrest for four persons of those involved in the reunification movement, who are under persecution on the charge of "case of the Iljin Association", and encroached upon their right of defense.

The contact and exchange with the north to implement the June 15 joint declaration cannot be incriminated but should be encouraged, they held.

The current repressive case is part of suppression by dint of the anachronistic "National Security Law" as the Lee Myung Bak "government" deliberately invented it in a bid to tide over the ruling crisis, they stressed.

They demanded the IS stop at once the violation of human rights.
