A celebration gala and a mass demonstration took place at a square in Lhasa, the Tibet Autonomous Region on July 19.

Vice President Xi Jinping who headed the delegation of the central government said in a speech at the gala the peaceful liberation of Tibet was a turning point of weighty significance in the Tibet's history and another great event in accomplishing the Chinese people's cause of liberation and the cause of national reunification.

An evening of fireworks was held in Lhasa on the same day.

There were also an exhibition of achievements marking the 60th of the peaceful liberation of Tibet, a celebration performance and other events.
