The statement said:

Kim Il Sung set forth the most fair and aboveboard and reasonable proposals for national reunification on the basis of his deep insight into the situation of the Korean Peninsula.

He explored the cause of national reunification and led it to victory with his distinguished idea and leadership.

Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, advanced by the President, as the three charters for national reunification.

The north-south joint declaration, adopted and published on June 15, 2000, is a cornerstone for the development of the inter-Korean relations and a great programme for Korea's reunification as it indicates the basic principles for achieving national reconciliation, unity and reunification and the ways to do so.

It is my firm belief that the Workers' Party of Korea and the Korean people would certainly achieve the cause of national reunification under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
