DPRK Taekwon-Do Demonstration Admired by Americans

Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) -- Young man and woman have a talk on a bench. Three gangsters walk towards them to assault the man and harass the woman. When the rogues try to take her away, the young man flings himself to them and knocks them down in a flash. This is a program performed by a DPRK Taekwon-Do player together with an American girl during the DPRK Taekwon-Do demonstration tour of the United States. The program won a burst of applause from spectators. The demonstration team toured three U.S. eastern cities, including New York, for a weeklong period from June 9, fully displaying the spirit of Taekwon-Do, the traditional martial art of the Korean nation. Americans warmly welcomed the demonstration team. Some people learnt how to play Taekwon-Do, posed for photo and exchanged autographs with DPRK players. Chairmen of both chambers of the New Jersey Assembly in a joint letter congratulated the players on their successful performance, saying their remarkable talent, high-level technique and energetic performance won Americans' respect and admiration. The chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee said this year's cultural exchange would help promote reconciliation, friendship and peace between the two countries. It is a common desire of the Korean and American people to dispel misunderstanding and distrust and establish normal relations based on understanding, respect and trust between the two countries. The demonstration tour served as an occasion confirming the common desire. Relations between countries may suffer ups and downs, but they are not immutable. Nations amend wrong bilateral relations and develop them to suit public aspiration and demand. There is no change in this trend of the historical development. The demonstration tour showed the DPRK and the U.S. people have great potentials of understanding and cooperation. Now they find no mental hurdle in going well with each other. The improvement of relations between the DPRK and the U.S. requires a strategic and historic decision to put an end to the long-standing hostile relations. |
