Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Elders of organizations of different circles of south Korea published a declaration on the situation for peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula on July 27, the 58th anniversary of the conclusion of the armistice agreement. They included Paek Rak Chong, honorary professor at Seoul National University, Paek Ki Wan, director of the Unification Study Center, Kim Sang Gun, director general of the Meeting for Embracing National Reunification, O Jong Ryol, permanent advisor to the Solidarity for Progress. 58 years have passed since the armistice agreement was signed but pain and wounds caused by the disastrous war in the Korean Peninsula have not yet been healed but the danger of war is increasing day by day, the declaration said. The reality goes to clearly prove that it is necessary to denuclearize the peninsula and conclude a peace agreement through dialogue and negotiations, it noted. It called for positively opting for implementing the south-north joint declarations and approach inter-Korean dialogue without condition. It also called for getting the "May 24 step" which blocked exchange and cooperation between the south and the north retracted at once. The peace-keeping mechanism not helpful to basically defusing the discord caused by division can never be solid, it said. In order to realize a genuine peace it is necessary to reunify the country at an early date. They will make the August 15 meeting for independent reunification this year a platform for punishing the Lee Myung Bak regime and the "Grand National Party" seriously threatening the people's rights to existence and the peace in the Korean Peninsula, the declaration said, calling upon the people from all walks of life to turn out in the actions to do so. |
