CPLA Defends Country and Its People and Steps up Economic and Social Development

Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- August 1 marks the 84th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Over the 84 years since the founding the CPLA has successfully discharged its honorable mission as protector of the country and its people and powerful builder under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The soldiers of the CPLA saved people from disasters in the campaigns to recover from various natural disasters. In recent two years alone, they participated in the campaigns to eradicate the aftermaths of serious natural disasters including damage done by the severest drought in the southwestern areas, damage caused by heavy snow in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, damage caused by flood in southern and northeastern areas and the biggest-ever landslides in Zhuqu, Gansu Province. Through these campaigns they rescued or evacuated a total of 310,000 inhabitants. During the massive earthquakes in Xingtai, Haicheng, Tangshan and Wenchuan well known to the world, they performed the feats to go down in the world history. They took an active part in social construction and built many structures for the country and the people. The four-forked long road linking various provinces and autonomous regions, the waterways in Huaihe Haihe Liaohe ad other irrigation facilities built in various areas, the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River, the natural gas pipeline and transmission line transiting from the west area to the east area of the country, the railways, stadiums and gymnasiums for the Beijing Olympiad, etc. are the product of their devoted efforts. In recent years they participated in the drive to modernize the old industrial bases in the northeastern areas and carried out 828 projects. They are now performing fresh feats in the work to defend the country and its people and push forward the economic and social development. |
