The release noted that Kangjong villagers have turned out in a death-defying resistance to protect their cradle of life from the military authorities' attempt to build a naval base.

The "government" and the military authorities, however, are setting in motion the police under the plea of "security" to arrest and detain at random protesting inhabitants and members of different organizations, it charged.

Any act of forcing sacrifice on Jeju islanders and threatening peace and environment can never be allowed, it said.

Strongly denouncing the "government" and the military authorities for pushing forward the project by means of violence, the release expressed the resolution to vigorously struggle for peace of the Kangjong village and the life of the people.
