Kang Pan Sok, Great Revolutionary

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- July 31 marks the 79th death anniversary of Kang Pan Sok, mother of President Kim Il Sung and indomitable revolutionary. In his reminiscences "With the Century" the President wrote: "Her whole life served as a textbook for me in implanting in me a true view on life and on the revolution." The love she showed him was not simply motherly love. It was true revolutionary affection with which she regarded him as the son of the nation rather than her own son and awakened him to the need to give priority to loyalty to the country over filial piety towards his parents. She was a woman with such a kind heart as to accord a warm welcome to a stranger of his age of thirteen if she knew that he needed shelter after a journey. But she ordered his son to leave for Linjiang immediately, even though he traveled hundreds of miles on foot in the coldest season and arrived in Badaogou. Though she had not seen him for two years, she did not allowed him to stay with her even for a night. As he set out on a journey again as soon as he had met his mother, he learned that the road of revolution is rough and it was the real love of a mother. This story is well known in the country. One day she, seeing his son who hesitated to leave her because of her sickness, scolded him severely: "How can a man who has turned out with a determination to win back his country cope with the great cause when he has such a weak heart and so many worries about his home?" The love Kang Ban Sok showed his son and the filial piety he devoted to his mother are based on patriotism. Kang Pan Sok was also a great teacher who taught his son the truth that a revolutionary should always concentrate on attaining his goal, not prompted by pity. |
