South African Communist Party Celebrates 90th Birthday

Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The South African Communist Party (SACP) celebrated its 90th anniversary on Sunday in Durban.

The celebration was attended by senior officials and other members of the SACP, figures of the African National Congress (ANC), Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU) and other political parties and organizations of the country.

Delegates of communist parties of China and other countries were invited there.

In his congratulatory speech South African President Jacob Zuma said the SACP and its alliance partners had played a huge role in the attainment of freedom in South Africa.

"The task is to ensure that we achieve economic freedom for our people," said the president, who is also ANC president.

A statement was adopted in the celebration.
