Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Dramatic changes have taken place in all fields of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China over the last six decades under the banner of socialism. Tibet's total gross output value increased 111.8 times in 2010, compared with that in 1951. Annual economic growth rate reached 12.4 percent during the period of the 11th Five-Year Plan. The Tibetan people who could not make even a screw nail and a matchstick in the past have solved the power problem by building power stations in Lhasa by their own efforts after the liberation. They built a lot of small and big factories and enterprises to lay agricultural and stock-farming foundation suitable for industrial fields including electric power, coal, chemistry, machine building and building materials and natural conditions. There was not a single proper road in Tibet in the past, but all towns and villages and more than 80 percent of local administrative villages have motorways at present. Their total length is 58 200km. The Tibet Autonomous Region has at least 52 100 technicians. They carried out 3 253 scientific and technological research tasks for economic development last year alone. There are many schools in different parts of Tibet. At present, the enrollment rate of primary school-aged children in Tibet stood at 99.2 percent and the enrollment rate of secondary school is 98.2 percent. Tibet's illiteracy rate now stands at 1.2 percent. Hospitals equipped with modern medical facilities in different parts of the Autonomous Region are operating for the health of the inhabitants. According to the statistics, Tibet's mortality rate of pregnant women and nursing mothers dropped to 231 now from 5 000 per 100 000 before the liberation. And an average life span of its population increased to 67 from 35.5 in 1959. All these successes in Tibet are attributable to the correct national policy of the Communist Party of China and people's government and its vitality. The Tibetan people are now working hard to make their native land a region better to live in under the leadership of the CPC which brought about the liberation of Tibet and ushered in a new era of prosperity. |
