Beijing, August 9 (KCNA) -- China has successfully conducted a special operation for cracking down on illegal additives in food or their abuse from April.

As of July 31, agricultural, industrial, commercial, quality control and food authorities in their coordinated efforts have shut down more than 4 900 businesses for illegal practices, according to a statement issued by the Food Safety Commission under the State Council.

The police have destroyed a series of underground sites for illegal production, storage and processing of food products and arrested approximately 2 000 suspects.
