Geothermal Resources in Wide Use
|
|
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Tapping and utilizing geothermal resources has become a worldwide trend along with the scientific and technological development and growing demand for energy. An effective and electricity-saving heating system based on geothermal pump has been introduced in some countries. An air-conditioning system based on geothermal pump was applied to buildings of 3 120 000 square metres in Nanning City, China last year. About 2 000 kWh was needed to air-condition a university cafeteria in the city for 8 hours in summer. But the geotherm-based air conditioning system consumes only 630 kWh in the same time. What is more important is that the use of geothermal energy does not pollute soil, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The Icelandic capital city of Reykjavik has established geotherm-supplying networks throughout the city to provide its citizens with hot water and hot air. Reykjavik is called a pollution-free city. The DPRK is directing effort to utilizing geothermal resources in economic sectors. |
