Tunnel Tactics Employed in Korean War
|
|
Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung advanced a tunnel tactics in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953). One day in late September Juche 40 (1951), the President ordered commanding officers of the Korean People's Army (KPA) to make tunnel-type defense positions in mountains. In response to his order, army units tunneled heights in the front and coastal areas for defense positions, turning them into impregnable fortresses. The tunnel warfare proved successful in many battles, including those to defend Height 1211. When the enemy bombed and shelled the defense positions, KPA soldiers took a rest in tunnels, enjoying songs and dances. The Juche-based tunnel warfare made it possible to maintain the forces to the utmost in hard-fought battles and frustrate the enemy's offensives. |
