Beijing, August 14 (KCNA) -- The Chinese Huan Qiu Shibao on August 12 carried an article headlined "China's aircraft carrier will not spark off new arms race".

When Chinese aircraft carrier for research and test was recently launched, some West media insisted the carrier will foster arms race in East Asia in the future, the paper recalled.

Such judgment of the West can be interpreted as an irresponsible instigation and one to put into practice the intention of some people to destabilize the situation in East Asia, it said, and went on:

At a time when Japan and south Korea were developing semi-aircraft carriers several years ago, West's media did not regard them as ones which may threaten the security and stability in East Asia. For what reason do the media regard China's possession of the aircraft carrier for research and test as one affecting regional peace and stability?

This is an unacceptable assessment. Such Cold War-minded way of thinking is affecting the security and stability in East Asia in any aspect.

The U.S. hegemonic moves in the Asia-Pacific region are the main factor of escalating arms race in this region, the paper said, citing concrete facts to prove it.
