Beijing, August 14 (KCNA) -- The 26th Summer Universiade was opened in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China on August 12.

Present at the opening ceremony were Chinese President Hu Jintao, the president of the International University Sports Federation, heads of state and government of different countries and delegations of 152 countries and regions including the DPRK.

Teams of various countries and regions entered the stadium.

The chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Universiade and the president of the International University Sports Federation spoke at the opening ceremony.

Hu Jintao declared the Universiade open.

Then followed a ceremony of torching the cauldron of the Universiade.

The participants will compete in 306 matches of 24 events including football, volleyball and track and field.
