Beijing, August 14 (KCNA) -- An underground geophysical observatory, the deepest ever in the world, is now under construction in Dunghai County, Jiangsu Province, China.

The soon-to-be-completed observatory, more than 5 000 meters deep, is capable of detecting even an earthquake measuring 1 on the Richter Scale in the fault and its adjacent zone.

Observation equipment have been installed from July 11.
