Pyongyang, August 18 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Law on the Protection of Environment was recently supplemented with some articles in two chapters.

Articles 38, 39 and 40, which stipulate the development and use of renewable energy, the establishment of an environmental authentication system and the introduction of technologies of recycling resources, were added to Chapter 3 "Prevention of Environmental Pollution". Articles 44 and 48, regulating the planning of environmental economy indexes and the supervision over environmental condition, were annexed to Chapter 4 "Supervision over Environmental Protection".

The new articles are aimed to encourage the country's industrial establishments and agencies to reduce the consumption of fossil energy like coal and crude oil and develop and utilize renewable energy such as solar, wind and geothermal power in order to protect environment and ensure a stable economic growth.

They are also aimed to base production and management activities on a proper environmental conservation system and increase the utility rate of recycled resources.
