Pyongyang, August 20 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Hotel overlooking the River Taedong was established on August 19, 1961.

The hotel having more than 200 rooms, banquet hall, dinning rooms, cinema and tea rooms, etc., meets modern architectural taste.

Over the past 50 years, the hotel has made good service to participants in the 13th World Youth and Student Festival and the April Spring Friendship Art Festival and spectators of grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" and other guests.

More than 346 000 compatriots of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and other overseas compatriots and foreigners were guests of the hotel in the last decade.

The hotel is famous for its high level of cooking.

There were just over 150 kinds of dishes at the time of its opening but now it serves guests more than 2 000 kinds of national food and world-famous dishes.

Its cooks were honored to receive many medals and diplomas in the April holiday cooking festival, an annual event.

A meeting and other events were held at the hotel on Thursday to mark its golden jubilee.
