Pyongyang, August 20 (KCNA) -- Successes have been made in fish farming in the DPRK recently. The field of pisciculture has reconstructed or built thousands of fish breeding grounds and put them on a scientific and technical basis in the last two years. It modernized fry breeding farms and increased the production of fries 1.5 times. Fish farms across the country completed in the main the modernization of gravity-fed hatcheries. Fish breeding grounds covering dozens of hectares and more than a hundred ponds have been built on the shores of Ryongyon and in the vicinity of the Ryongjong Spring. Vast man-made lakes of Ryesonggang Youth Power Station No. 1, the Samsu Power Station and the areas of Huichon and Ryongrim are teeming with shoals of fish, presenting fantastic scenery. Fish breeding grounds using cold and warm waters made their appearances in Rinsan, Singye, Myonggan and Kilju and other counties to breed catfish and rainbow trout. The production of fries rapidly increased through innovations in the work for solving the issue of food. The Tudan Fry Breeding Office, the Taedonggang Fish Farming Office, the Yonggwang Youth Fish Farming Office and other offices produced two or three times as many young fishes in the last two years as compared with the preceding years and released them into rivers and lakes. Scientists and researchers succeeded in introducing fast-growing Ryongjong fish across the country and made progress in studying and breeding new species. They solved technical issues ranging from breeding mother fish to collecting and hatching eggs and breeding fries and fattening them. They succeeded in rounding off the process of breeding sturgeon and putting the method of breeding salmon on a scientific basis to suit the actual conditions of the country. A scientific fish breeding system is introduced across the country. Fishes are distributed in water of different layers to suit their physiological characteristics to make a three dimensional use of production area. Use of water, supply of food and the density of fish habitation are scientifically adjudged. |
