Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- A competition among schoolchildren here in crossing the River Taedong was held Tuesday to mark the Youth Day.

It brought together at least 900 secondary and primary schoolers in the city.

When a pistol was fired to kick off the competition, the swimmers at the promenade of the river swam towards the other side of bank where the Tower of the Juche Idea is standing.

They, keeping themselves in a good formation, swam displaying swimming technique they have cultivated in their day-to-day.

Schoolchildren and citizens cheered them up, sending them applause.

Prior to the competition, a model performance crossing the River Taedong was given by pupils of Pyongyang Namsin Primary School and Pyongyang Sanghung Primary School.
