Solar Power Plant Built in Spain

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The Toresol Energy Company of Spain has recently built a solar power plant capable of producing electricity round-the-clock. The power plant is made up of 2,650 solar reflectors and heat accumulators distributed in the shape of a pivotal circle in the area covering 185 hectares. The plant produces electricity at night, too, with the help of a huge heat accumulator which looks like a steel tower standing in its center. Reflectors focus about 95 percent of solar energy on the accumulators. When it is heated by solar energy, the temperature of melting salt reaches as high as over 500 degrees centigrade. High-pressure steam turns turbines. The technology of accumulating heat by use of melting salt is more effective than the use of silicon crystal solar battery. |
