Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The 48th national sports contest among juvenile sports schools have been held in Pyongyang, Phyongsong of South Phyongan Province, Wonsan of Kangwon province and other places since it opened on August 3.

The contest was divided into two groups - school youth and juvenile. Its participants competed in 35 events including football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, track-and-field and gymnastics.

Boys and girls of Pyongyang placed first in the first and second categories of football games.

Boys and girls of Pyongyang came first in the basketball game in the school youth group while boys of South Phyongan Province and girls of the juvenile sports school of Yanggakdo Football Stadium placed first in the weight-lifting event. Boys and girls of the juvenile sports schools of the Swimming Gymnasium in Chongchun Street and those of Pyongyang came first in swimming event and table-tennis games respectively.

The first place in the basketball and table-tennis games in the juvenile group went to boys and girls of Pyongyang.

Meanwhile, boys and girls of the maritime juvenile sports school in Pyongyang emerged a winner in the swimming event.

A closing ceremony was held on Wednesday.
