Myanmar Combats Drug Trafficking

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- Myanmar is directing efforts to combat drug trafficking.

The Myanmar authorities destroyed a total of 7 049 hectares of illicit poppy plantation across the country in the 2010-11 poppy cultivation season, according to the central anti-drug authorities Monday.

In July this year, the Myanmar authorities exposed 172 drug-related cases, punishing 280 people.

Among the seizure in connection with the cases during the month were 48.49 kilograms (kg) of opium, 0.44 kg of heroin, 22.90 kg of marijuana and 0.015 kg of ephedrine as well as 610 663 stimulate tablets.
