Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Saturday editorially notes General Secretary Kim Jong Il's visit to Russia was a historic event as it greatly contributed to the Korean people's cause of building a great prosperous and powerful nation and the development of DPRK-Russia relations and the human cause of independence.

The indefatigable efforts and devotion made by him for boosting the ties of friendship between the two countries greatly inspire the peoples of the two countries and progressive humankind aspiring after independence, peace and friendship, it says, and continues:

By paying the historic visit to Russia he contributed to the regional development and world peace and security.

At the talks held between the top leaders of the two countries during his visit, there was a wide-ranging exchange of views on the issues of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula and ensuring the peace and security in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world.

They, at the same time, clarified the will of the two countries to oppose the high-handed and arbitrary practices in the international arena and establish a fair international order and thus contribute to safeguarding the peace and security of the region and the world.

At the talks the top leaders reached a consensus of views on resuming the six-party talks at an early date without any precondition and implementing the September 19 Joint Statement on the principle of simultaneous action and thereby accelerating the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. This is a manifestation of the principled stands of the two countries.

The significant meeting and talks between the top leaders of the two countries marked an important milestone in boosting the relations of friendship and cooperation and good neighborliness between the two countries in line with the desire and aspiration of their peoples and turning Northeast Asia into a region of peace and cooperation.

Kim Jong Il's historic visit to Russia will be recorded as a great event in developing the DPRK-Russia friendship at a higher stage and opening a bright prospect for establishing sound international relations and accomplishing the cause of global independence.
