Beijing, August 28 (KCNA) -- Daqing emerged a major centre of China's industrial front under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Oil which the Chinese people had longed for so much gushed out in Daqing in a strong windy day on the threshold of the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of China in 1959, adding to the festive atmosphere of the holiday.

More than 30 000 soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and thousands of scientists, technicians and youth developed at least 860 square kilometers of oil fields in the first three years in this northern land and started to increase its production.

Daqing has turned into a large oil producer and a comprehensive oil industrial city equipped with various industrial sectors including oil processing, chemical and textile industries.

The urban construction started in real earnest from 1979.

Modern streets appeared. There are in every residential district shops, restaurants, schools, kindergartens, nurseries, hospitals, cinema houses and other cultural and educational facilities.

Drawing the attention of visitors in the center of the city are the schoolchildren's palace, stadium, swimming pool, theatre and other modern buildings.

The Daqing oil fields have produced a total of more than 2 billion tons of oil for the past 50-odd years. This accounts for about 40 percent of the total oil output of the country.

At least 8 250 scientific research achievements were made in the oil fields and more than 1 700 of them were awarded state prizes.

The oil produced here is greatly contributing to speeding up the economic development.

Many cadres and workers of the oil fields were dispatched to other newly developed oil fields across the country and are now working as core forces to push ahead with the nation's oil industry.

Therefore, the Chinese people say today's economic development would have been unthinkable without the Daqing Oil Fields.

The experience accumulated by workers in Daqing and their responsible work style are giving spurs to achieving the strategic goals for socialist economic construction of the Chinese people.
