Beijing, August 28 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry rejected the "Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China" for 2011 made public by the U.S. Department of Defense at a press conference on August 26.

He said the U.S. Department of Defense spoke ill of China's normal defense and army construction and played up the so-called Chinese mainland's "military threat" to Taiwan. He reiterated China's stand opposed to it.

"China unswervingly adheres to the path of peaceful development, and its national defense policy is defensive in nature," he said.

China's defense building "is solely to safeguard its own sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensure smooth economic and social development, and does not target any country," he added.
