Anniversary of NAM Marked in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Foreign Ministry gave a reception at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Corps Club on Wednesday on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Present there on invitation were representatives of NAM member nations and diplomatic envoys of different countries and representatives of international organizations participating in the NAM as observers and guests. Officials of the DPRK Foreign Ministry including Minister Pak Ui Chun were present there. Pak Ui Chun said in his speech at the reception that the NAM has greatly contributed to protecting the global peace and security and helping NAM member nations ensure collective rights and meet their interests since its foundation, adding that the exploits President Kim Il Sung performed by making an immortal contribution to strengthening and developing the NAM and realizing the human cause of independence are now being further glorified by leader Kim Jong Il. He noted that the DPRK government would remain true to the idea and principle of the NAM in the future, too and boost the friendly and cooperative relations with all other countries of the world and international organizations that respect their sovereignty. Amr Abdelwahab Mohieeldin Abuahmed, Egyptian charge d'affaires ad interim, read out a letter sent by the foreign minister of Egypt, the chair country of the NAM. The letter said: The NAM countries should strictly adhere to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in other's internal affairs and the right to self-determination, prevent the impact of climate change and worldwide financial, food and energy crises and put the South-South Cooperation into practice. All the member nations of the NAM are required to make a positive contribution to developing the NAM, concluded the letter. |
