Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- Today marks the day of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) and the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Leading papers here devote signed articles to this day. They say that the NAM has made a great contribution to the struggle for defending world peace and security, achieving the independence of the countries and nations and building a just and peaceful new world over the past 50 years under the uplifted banner of the NAM and the banner of independence against imperialism. The NAM has developed into the most powerful independent forces against imperialism in the present era as it speaks for and defends the interests of the non-aligned and other developing countries and dynamically pushes forward global independence, Rodong Sinmun notes, and goes on: President Kim Il Sung comprehensively and lucidly clarified all the theoretical and practical issues arising in defending the fundamental idea of the NAM and its purity, raising its position and role and augmenting the might of the movement on various occasions. The President encouraged the non-aligned countries in boosting the NAM and accelerating its advance with a clear objective and faith. There are no such organized forces in our times as the NAM which groups so many countries of the world and wages struggles, taking independence against imperialism as the noble idea of its activities. As long as the imperialist and hegemonic forces pursue domination, interference, aggression and plunder in the world, the NAM should remain true to its fundamental idea and continue to intensify the struggle for independence against imperialism. An intensified struggle for independence against imperialism only would make it possible to defend the world peace and security and independent rights and interests of the people, consolidate national independence and achieve social progress. Independence against imperialism is the banner which the NAM should hold high in its struggle. Minju Joson notes the most urgent duty facing the NAM at present is to prevent the danger of war and defend the peace and security of the world. |
