Beijing, August 31 (KCNA) -- A senior Chinese official called for creating many fine operas with Chinese characteristics and national features.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Communist Party of China, recently enjoyed the opera "Honghegu" (Red River Valley) and had a talk with its creative members.

Li told them the opera is clear in theme, deep in content and high in ideological and artistic value.
