Moscow, September 1 (KCNA) -- Nikolai Makarov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, recently announced Russia plans to stage some 40 joint military exercises with other countries this year.

Speaking to reporters, he said most of the exercises will be held with its neighboring countries -- member nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
