Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- On the 63rd anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Korean people are recollecting President Kim Il Sung's energetic guidance for providing the national flag and emblem after the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule. One day in November Juche 36 (1947), the President invited an artist to design national flag and emblem of the soon-to-be-founded state and gave him detailed instructions concerning the design. He told the artist the national flag and emblem should represent the soul of Korea and the idea and spirit of Juche. He went on to say that the national flag should reflect the patriotic spirit of the Korean revolutionaries who fought with arms against the Japanese imperialists for a long time for the country's liberation, as well as the patriotic zeal and might of the Korean people rallied around the Workers' Party of Korea. He said the national emblem should symbolize the Korean people carrying forward the brilliant traditions of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and striving for a complete independence, sovereignty and progress of Korea under the leadership of the Party. It should also show the close unity of the popular masses based on the worker-peasant alliance with the working class as the core and a bright prospect of the republic, which would be equipped with modern industry and agriculture, he added. The DPRK national flag and emblem were designed and instituted as instructed by the President. |
