Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- Italian workers held nationwide strike Tuesday to protest austerity measures of the authorities.

Called by Italy's largest union the CGIL, the one-day strike in Rome was participated in by nearly 50 000 people. Their demonstration brought national public transportation to a halt. They complained about the worsening living conditions of toiling masses due to the austerity measures taken by the authorities under the pretext of cutting down budget deficit. They demanded their immediate retraction.
