Teheran, September 10 (KCNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast warned Wednesday that deploying NATO's missile shield system in Turkey will not provide stability in the region or guarantee security in the host country, state TV reported Thursday.

The missile shield system in Turkey is "the same suspicious U.S. project" it was pursuing in eastern Europe for years, said the spokesman, referring implicitly to the disputes between the United States and Russia.

"The Islamic Republic (of Iran) believes that supporting NATO's presence in the region will cause insecurity (in the region)" and will complicate the regional situation, he was quoted as saying.
