S. Korean Authorities Urged to Give up Their Stand of Mistrust and Confrontation

Pyongyang, September 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities are obliged to pull down the barrier of mistrust and confrontation, a product of their anti-reunification scenario.

Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article.

There grow strong domestic and foreign voices calling for peace on the Korean Peninsula and the improved north-south relations, but the south Korean authorities are swimming against the tide of the times by persisting in their confrontation policy, the article notes, and goes on:

The "policy toward the north" pursued by the south Korean authorities is a vivid expression of their mistrust in the DPRK and confrontation with fellow countrymen.

National reconciliation, unity and reunification are more urgently required than ever before, but the south Korean authorities do not manifest their will to make a switchover in their "policy toward the north," a policy aimed at confrontation only. This is an unpardonable criminal act of challenging the desire of the fellow countrymen and the need of the times.

The above-said "policy" of the south Korean authorities is an anti-reunification policy for confrontation as it diametrically runs counter to the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration. "The adherence to principles" touted by the ultra-right conservative elements of south Korea is designed to pursue their policy for confrontation to the last, opposed to the improved inter-Korean relations.

The south Korean authorities should make a switchover in their anachronistic "policy toward the north" to opt for respecting and implementing the said declarations. This is the way for putting an end to mistrust and confrontation.

Their anti-reunification acts and moves to intensify suppression are a factor of escalating the mistrust and confrontation between the north and the south.

The confrontation between the north and the south can hardly be defused and people of various circles can never think of their free discussion on national reunification and their activities for it as long as the fascist rule is enforced in south Korea.

The south Korean authorities' military provocations and war maneuvers are the height of their moves to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK.

The military confrontation between the north and the south would only deepen the mistrust and misunderstanding between fellow countrymen and bar them from trusting and getting reconciled with each other and escalate the tensions and bring a nuclear holocaust to them in the end.

If the south Korean ruling circles keep pursuing confrontation and war, remaining hostile towards the DPRK, the strained inter-Korean relations will never be repaired, concludes the article.
