Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- A national exhibition of urban greening layouts for prize contest was opened with due ceremony at the People's Palace of Culture on Thursday.

Displayed in the venue of the exhibition are more than 150 layouts presented by officials and other working people in the fields of urban management and afforestation.

Among them are beautiful and peculiar layouts including greening in streets and around apartment buildings, parks at institutions and enterprises, flower beds and flowerstands.

Present at the opening ceremony were Vice-Premier Jon Ha Chol, Ri Ja Bang, chairman of the State Science and Technology Commission, officials concerned and officials, scientists, teachers, researchers and creators in the fields of urban management and afforestation designing and in the fields of education and scientific researches.

Hwang Hak Won, minister of Urban Management, in an opening speech called for waging a dynamic drive for radically changing the looks of their native places, streets and work sites, true to the noble intention of leader Kim Jong Il to provide the Korean people with more cultured living environment.

A national scientific and technological public presentation in the field of urban management will also take place while the exhibition is under way until Sept. 20.
