Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Democratic Labor Party in south Korea released a commentary on Sept. 15 denouncing the military authorities' attempted wholesale crackdown upon the protesters against the construction of a naval base on Jeju island. The commentary said that the navy side threatened the islanders and opposition parties that it would dismantle facilities they built in the construction premise for the struggle against the base. The issue of the base construction is getting serious due to the disclosure of the double agreements which the authorities concluded concerning the naval base construction, noted the commentary. It charged that the navy side, however, intended to commit the high-handed practice to crack down on the protesters. Saying that such attempt is challenge to not only the Jeju islanders but all other people, the commentary urged the navy side to backtrack it and immediately stop the construction project. |
