Big Drop in Child Mortality in African Countries

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- The number of children under five who die each year has plummeted from 12 million in 1990, to 7.6 million last year, the UN says.

Child mortality in sub-Saharan Africa is declining twice as fast as it was a decade ago.

Many factors are contributing to reductions in child mortality, including better healthcare for newborns, prevention and treatment of childhood diseases, clean water and better nutrition.
