Probiotics Applied to Eel Breeding

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- Probiotics, newly developed by Kim Il Sung University, has been applied to eel breeding in the DPRK.

Kim Ryon Hwa, a researcher of the university's Life Science Faculty, told KCNA that a big problem in eel breeding is to free the fish from erythemic disease.

The disease-infected eel is covered with hemorrhagic spots on its integument, including fin, and even died.

Antibiotic had been applied to the disease but it adversely affected the fish.

The newly developed probiotics is strong in resistance to pathogenic bacteria, conductive to raising immunity and helpful to digestion.

It, which doubles the eel surviving rate, is also applicable to poultry farming.
