Beijing, September 19 (KCNA) -- The September 19 joint statement is of landmark significance as it was a joint statement published for the first time since the beginning of the six-party talks, said Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

Addressing an international symposium, which opened in Beijing Monday to mark the 6th anniversary of the joint statement, he said:

Advocating peace has already become an irresistible tendency of the times.

All parties should establish a fresh outlook on security based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and cooperation, adhere to the idea of mutual benefit and co-prosperity and make efforts to achieve peace and stability in Northeast Asia.

Maintaining, safeguarding and implementing the joint statement is the obligation and duty for all parties. Each side should work jointly to implement the statement in an all-round and balanced way as early as possible.

If the parties concerned respect each other, negotiate in a candid way, reach mutual understanding and make concessions, firmly maintaining the spirit of the statement, the six-party talks will continue to be held and yield fruits.

China will remain faithful to its commitments contained in the joint statement and actively promote the process of the talks.
